‘[TITLE OF SHOW]‘
Encore Theater Company presented an utterly delightful regional premiere of composer Jeff Bowen and librettist Hunter Bell’s charming Tony Award-nominated musical comedy [title of show] July 15-17 in Sinclair Community College’s Blair Hall Theatre. This endearingly simple and surprisingly touching tale about the hopes and drams of two struggling writers will always remain excessively New York-centric, which chips away at its mainstream appeal, but director Shane Anderson and his terrifically compatible cast didn’t miss a beat. Appealing leads Shawn Hooks (Jeff) and Christopher Smyth (Hunter) received lovable support from Nora Coyle as Heidi and he absolutely hilarious Angele’ Price as Susan (based on Muse Machine and Wright State University alum Susan Blackwell). Mark Barnhill provided fine accompaniment as on-stage pianist Larry.
Copies of this issue of The Dayton City Paper can be picked up in various locations of the Dayton region (coffeehouses, street boxes, etc.) from July 28 through August 3, 2010.

Encore Theater Company is pleased to host the Midwest premiere of Next Thing You Know – a NEW MUSICAL in development from the award-winning Off-Broadway composing team of Ryan Cunningham and Joshua Salzman (I Love You Because). ETC is helping Salzman & Cunningham develop the show right here in Dayton before it heads back to New York. We want them to return to New York and spread the word – that Downtown Dayton is a Midwest mecca for new and exciting arts development.
